The Let's Read and Find Out Series is on of our favorites. I bought this book recommended by Memoria Press Science Enrichment Curriculum for home schooling my five year old. We are using it along with The Milk Makers by Gail Gibbons. We read these books and then visited a local dairy farm that has an ice cream parlor on the farm. That ice cream parlor is very busy and it is fun to buy your ice cream cone and eat it in the picnic area outside. The dairy cows come right up to the fence and visit the customers as we are enjoying our ice cream.
my 4 year old daughter was asking me where milk comes from and I wanted to show her the whole process, including getting across the idea that cows make milk primarily to feed their calves (just like people do), I was surprised that most other resources didn't mention that fact. Great illustrations and complete but not overly detailed text. We had fun reading it.
Before I made butter from heavy cream with my 3 year old preschoolers I wanted to teach them about where milk comes from. This book presents the material in a very straightforward manner. It also goes beyond the 3 year old level in talking about pasteurization, so I would say it is very useful for ages 3 - 7. It is nicely illustrated and clearly written.
Great information for visual aid learners
I ordered this book to use as a read-aloud for my kindergarten students. It was a little above their level so I used the information within the book to make a powerpoint presentation that they could easily understand. I will use it in the future with my older students.
This is a GREAT book and not only because my five year old enjoys it but because I've learned from it. This is a great book to have!
This is a great book for learning about the whole process. Our 2.5 year old loves it although some parts are a little more complex than I had hoped they would be. We read it often, and he now knows milk comes from cows (and goats) and not just from the store. He will probably make us buy goat milk soon. :)
The book is a marvelous tool for teaching kids just how milk is processed from cow to frig. My granddaughters had a thing or two to teach their parents! I would recommend this book. Even my 3 year old granddaughter talked about it days later, remembering many of the new words she had learned.
